Fr. Labib Memorial Page

Monsignor Labib Kobti was our founding pastor, spiritual advisor, mentor and friend. He was a very holy and humble priest that deservedly earned the honorable title of “Monsignor” but he preferred to be called “Abouna.” “Abouna” means “father” in his native language of Arabic. So most people called him Abouna Labib or Father Labib.

Our ministry was created because of Abouna Labib’s idea and invitation to start a young adult group in 2008. Our ministry began and developed because of his genuine love and support which truly exemplified Christ. We are forever grateful for the incredible amount of love, encouragement and spiritual guidance this truly holy man shared with us all. Abouna Labib’s memory will live on through us and our ministry.

We love you, Abouna Labib. Rest in peace.

Eternal rest grant unto the soul of Monsignor Labib Kobti, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

I met Fr. Labib during my time at St. Thomas More between 2012-2014. I used to attend the Sunday evening Mass with my wife (who was my fiancé back then) and was also part of St. Benedict’s Young Adult Group, at St. Thomas More. What struck me most about Fr. Labib was how loving a person he was. He was a gentle soul who always greeted you with a warm smile, when you met him around church. His homilies always tied in the message of love in some way or the other. I used to joke with my wife that I would probably get diabetes by simply listening to his homilies 🙂 . Even at the peak of his suffering during his time at St. Anne’s Home, he always had a smile on his face and his message of love always found its way into conversations. He was an inspiration to all who got to know him, and exemplified what it means to try to live in the virtues of our Lord Jesus Christ.
